Biography

Jerry Teters’ abstract paintings, commissioned work and select prints are increasingly sought after by collectors of classic contemporary art.

Jerry studied painting and drawing in New York City at Pratt Institute, the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design and holds a MA in Painting from the State University of New York at New Paltz, the town where he currently lives with his family. A creative landscape and still life painter, printmaker and wood sculptor, since 2013, his focus has largely been on creating a body of abstract paintings, primarily on commission, often for interior designers and their clients.

Living near the Shawangunk Ridge in the beautiful Hudson Valley has strongly influenced Teters' color palette. The repetition in his work of the subtle, natural hues of his surrounding environment are seen over and over again in his paintings. The play of line against shape challenges him to explore, experiment and develop the relationship of linear and spacial forms and the addition of rich textures bring depth and mood to each finished piece.

Teters, who is also a professional musician, equates creating a work of painterly art to performing a musical composition. For him, both are the result of listening to and acting on an innate rhythm and flow.

In a review the Woodstock (NY) Times wrote, “In Teters’ paintings, the horizon lines swing… ascending curves or diagonal lines invoke rhythms and poly-rhythms, while small squares or dots of color provide point and counterpoint in an equivalence of musical and non-objective visual form that has been around as long as abstraction has been in art and in earlier Bauhaus.”

Teters' paintings, prints and mixed medium works are sought after by many private collectors throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and California.

Commissioned pieces are available upon request.
